Discussion Questions for I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest

Hey everyone! So I had my book club discussion yesterday and realized I hadn’t posted my book club discussion questions for the book we read!  So here they are!

  1. This book was set in Seattle. Do you think the story would have changed had it been set elsewhere? Would the atmosphere have changed had it been set in, say, a southern city?
  2. If you could only use one word to describe Libby, what word would you use? What word would you use for May?
  3. What did you think of Trick? In the beginning he helped May to help himself with his money issue. Do you think he had a change of heart by the end of the book or was he still helping out for personal reasons?
  4. Do you think the technology mentioned in this book (websites like Zazzle and Reddit and technology like viruses and server farms) will date it? Do you think books should have technology in them at all or do you think authors should stay away from it in order to make their book more appealing in later years?
  5. What did you think about the web comic portions of the story? Do you think they added or detracted from the story?
  6. Do you think the story could have been told without the snippets of web comic that we get? How would it have affected the story if the author had chosen to leave them out?
  7. Do you think May’s parents made the right decision when they chose to keep the fact that Libby was murdered from May? What would you have done if it were you?
  8. Between May and Libby, which one do you think was the most changed by the events that happened in the book? Why?
  9. Do you think this story had any messages you could take away from it or was it pure entertainment?
  10. Did the story feel resolved to you or were there things you still needed answers to? Did the book end in a good place? Do you think Libby and May’s friendship will last despite Libby having to move to Japan?
